I have searching the web for the opening day to Sandy Point State Park striped bass fishing in 2015, but I could not find an exact day. Could you please let me know the opening day. Also, could you provide guidance to what I should bring for fishing. This will be the first time for me to try it down there. Like what bait do you use, rod, reel, line, hook size and kind?
Thanks for any feed back

Admin: As far as I can tell, Sandy Point State Park is open year-round, except for Christmas Day. Having said that, they also have a noticed posted that says they are closed thru March 26, 2015. Now, what I don’t know is if that is just the camping facilities or the entire park. I think its just the camping facilities, but I can’t say for sure. Wish I could be of more help. I would suggest calling them directly: (410)974-2149.

As for what to take with you. Most surf fishermen use a 10-12″ surf rod, anywhere from a 5000-7000 series reel should work well with a 30-40 lb braid or 20-25 mono should suffice unless the heavy weights are in the area. As for bait, Stripers love clam. Your best bet is to stop by a local tackle shop and get the latest info on where they might be biting and what bait they suggest you use.

If you watch more of the Striped Bass videos posted on this site, you can pick up a lot of info as well. Of course, if you’re open to catching some Blues as well, check out those videos, too.
Good luck and tight lines!
